A Little War !!

All I have been thinking since morning is about the young men who sacrificed their lives in 1945, 1965, 1971.....till date while protecting us and Pakistan....
I was trying to convince myself that I am living in a manner that makes their sacrifice worthwhile !!!
I was hoping that all the "Shuhda" are looking down and smiling (not smirking) at us !!!!
We take so much for granted .....
We can be so callous and careless while speaking up when our lives are not on the line !!!!
We forget, very conveniently that : ae putt hattan tay naen wiqday !!!
#respectforpakarmy#allforpeace#saynotowar#modinotworthy#shameonindia#pakairforcerocks#dontforgetthenavy......

Aurat March 2019 !!!!!

I read the posters and cringed, literally and figuratively !!!
These so called open minded women of "Aurat March" were so disrespectful of "Feminism"....
Feminism doesn't mean that women will react in a vice versa manner !!
Maan behan ki gali ko khatam karna hai replace nahin...
Most of the placards were disgusting and disrespectful !!!
Agar aurat Maan hai tou Mard baap hai !!!
Izat barabar hai Dono ki !!!
Being crude and disgusting doesn't show that you are strong and empowered ; it only shows that women are still not ready to be unleashed onto the world unattended .....
What a farce this was; every important issue was made a mockery of, the uncouth way agendas were dealt with left me thinking; "sorry girls, I think I choose not to be a feminist".... I would rather be a humanist !!!
PS: I just wanted ask these silly girls if any of them even knew where the kitchens of their homes were located !!! Khana Kia garam karain gi yeh !!!!
#Respect for all genders !!!

Illusive Love

Oh! Love
The illusive love
The kind that ...
Stops your mind
And races your heart ???!!!!
The kind that exists in books
And movies
In fairy tales
And mythological stories

The love that kills all other loves and vanities,
The love that gives birth to all new feelings and sensitivities....

The illusive love ....
The kind that stops the heart,
That pauses the racing thoughts.
Where do I find it ????

Honour Killings

No justification
I will give.
No heed
I will pay.
Execute me;
Strangle my deep rotten soul
But
My bulging eyes will remain
Open,
Wide !
Paying tribute to my endless strength and tireless confrontations !!!
I rebel,
I say nay.
I am the nay sayer !!
Slay me for the greater good ......
Justification, I give none !!!!
My behaviour is validated by your need to silence me.......

Election 2018

Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to see all children in school
I want to see mosques safe again...
Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to see the deserving get their just
I want to sleep with my doors unlocked ...
Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to eat pure
I want to drink milk not soap ...
Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to become a change maker
I want to be brave enough to do what is right ....
Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to keep my young ones in Pakistan
I want to die of old age here ...
Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to look into the eyes of the world
I want to be proud of being a Pakistani, when handing over my passport ...
Count me in !!
I want change,
I want to do more than making and breaking parliaments in my withdrawing room
I want to stop being a lazy idealist ....

Count me in because I am ready to roar ....
Count me in because I am going to be a better Pakistani .....
🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰
At my talk today a lot of young girls came up to me and said I inspired them to do more with their lives. They enthused that I opened their eyes and now they will break barriers and follow their dreams with a passion ....
Of course I was flattered but at the same time their remarks left me wondering ...
Why did they need a push from me? Where are their close family members? Why is society still an oppressor? Why haven't times changed (for the better) for the educated young girls living in Pakistan during the 21st century? Where have we gone wrong? What is "taraki" if the young girls still need pep talks and motivation to recognize their potential and worth !!!?????

Empowered women should be seen as strength of the society not barrier breakers !!!??? They are the future that will bring about the change that is much needed in our society today !! The future mothers and teachers are so unsure of themselves and their potentials because behind them there is no parent or loved one telling them that the sky is the limit.

Please invest in the emotional strength of the girl child and help her recognize that she matters too. Please empower your daughters and raise them to be ambitious too. Invest in their futures and see a better Pakistan. Women and girls should get equal opportunities to follow their dreams and live to be the best that they can be .....

Motivate your daughters, sisters, mothers and wives to be happy, enriched, educated and independent thinkers. Believe it or not they will thank you and your confidence in them will be rewarded with success of Pakistan.

"Taraki sirf aik pari likhi maan la sakti hai"

Don't be afraid of empowering women because women hold up half the sky 😎🇵🇰😎

Defence Day

Pak Fauj is in my veins and arteries and heart forever (sentiments of an army brat).

However the Fauj that I experienced, growing up in a totally marshal family, was not the Fauj of today.

Those were peaceful days, the days of my youth ...... War on terror had yet to begin !!! Cantonments were happy places, safe places, fun places ... Families were stable and complete ....

Alas, the Fauji bachay of today live in constant fear for the safety of their fathers .... Every officer is directly or indirectly linked to the horrors of war inside our borders ; everyday a shaheed's family cries in some cantonment or the other. Posting seasons are a time of fearful anticipation. A stint in Waziristan or on the borders leaves officers and their families distraught; the stress is too much and too real.

I salute the officers, soldiers and the families of today's Army for not backing off and not giving in despite the fatal conditions....

Leisure days are over,
Silent, slumberous, hot summer days are over.
School beckons and work calls

My Knitting Pictures

Work in progress

Hunm !! Used up all the leftover yarn and now will have to buy more ......
Beats the whole purpose of using the stash :)
But I want to make it huge .........
Big enough for me and my love to snuggle under.
#biggestUgliestThrow on its way :0

Liars in Love

My throbbing throat
Constricted
With disease
Or with wonder
I don't know !!!!!
I am still
Hearing untruths
Wanting to believe
But knowing
All and everything is a facade
Psuedo reality........
Liars stating how truthful they are !!!!!

Uncertain Life

Plan, Publish,Post
Do whatever you have to do.

Never will you figure out God's plan

He knows all
He knows best

So, plan, publish and post
But in the end wait and watch
For your future to unroll
As per His designs
As per His desires

Plan, publish and post
Do whatever you have to do !!!
It's been a while
Since I last saw you smile

Years, six long ones have gone by
Each day
As I promised
I have sent a tiny prayer
Your way !!!

My darling in heaven,
I miss you !!!!

Human History is as appalling as the current times......

Wow, they say these are bad times... I am pretty sure they were saying the same when Haluko Khan came roaring down the mountains....bad times!!! Stay indoors at all times walay times.

Human history is full of bad times...from the incident between Kane and Abel all the way down to Jack the ripper and Nawaz Sharif. Blood baths have spilled in the name of religion and atrocities have been comitted in the name of freedom......... I think it all is prompted by the innate need of man to control something, at any cost, (whatever he can get his hands on).  It may just be his small personal domain within his house or if he has somehow fooled people into letting him lead them, his clan or country. In the meantime whoever losses a limb or a life for him is mere collateral damage as far as the eternal leader (man) is concerned. I mean Is tarah tou hota hai is tarah kay kamon main.

Why is this so, you may ask (maybe you won't ask but I will tell u anyways)? Waiasay bhi WHY is my favorite question (Haina Papa?).... Why did Halaku khan burn the libraries or used books to make bridges in Baghdad (Maybe he was jealous because he had no books)? Why did Alexander not stop before all his Army including him was perished (Maybe he wasn't God after all)? Why did Tipu Sultan's Mamu open the gates to the enemy (This one is easy, lalchi tha)? Why did Hitler let himself lose on the Jews (Still thinking , thniking......thinking)? Why did the Japs attack Pearl Harbour (Maybe they were tired of playing war war)? Why are the Jews punishing Palestinians for Hitlers crimes (This I know for sure is because they are just mean and badatameez)? Why did the Jews leave their house in the first place (Did we ask them to?). By the way why are they behaving just like Hitler nowadays (I mean eradicating a whole race because they are sitting on prime land)? Wow, us Muslims ladies love discussing Jews.......phew !!!

Please, do not read between the lines here, I never took history in school and now I am teaching Egyptian history to middle schoolers in Pakistan.........so I am no authority on anything I am writing about. These are just rambles of a woman living during bad times. But weren't all the above mentioned times bad times for the mothers losing their sons, despite their religious beliefs, to make the random, unsure, perverted, sick, half cooked dreams of their leaders come true.....!! I mean who was Hitler to kill Jew, Christian, Black or White population ( someone's child)
(Personal glory is the answer as far as I am concerened..........that is all......)

So, back to the bad times !! They say these are bad times for the Islamic Ummah..............hunm remind me please when were the good times???? From Karbala on wards I do not think there ever were any times that were totally good for the Ummah on the whole......Complete peace?never ever heard of it ......Please, give me a window of at least a 100 years where Muslims were not being oppressed or were not the conquerors?? In one way or the other there was always fighting, anarchy, unrest and chaos within the Ummah........Bad times? Now??? Hunm !! If you say so !!!

Eastern times or Western times, at their best, were and are usually bad, so why fret ......Let the bad times RULE ............if for nothing else then only for nostalgic reasons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: All the puns were very much intended......

Contrasts

Days are long...
Nights short.
My heart is heavy ...
My spirit light.
My eyes are dull...
My complexion bright.

Hopes are dead...
Yet, fears alive.
My soul is starving...
While my ghosts thrive.

Where am I headed ?
Am I lost..
Or found...?

Blasphemous, I don't want to be called
And fear for my end.
Which will take me...
Under ground !!

"Happy Birthday to Me"

Another year lived !!
Another one begins !!
The journey of life is
Passing at a surreal pace..
It was just yesterday,
That I was a little girl...
Ridding the wind on my
Unseen wings !!

Sunday

Silent Sunday,
Passing by !!
Looking out the window,
Thinking about the past.
Seeing the future,
In my children's eyes.
Hoping for all things good,
Praying for all things good.

Let's see what the busy Monday will bring.

Baby's First Football

On Super Bowl Sunday, while the kids were rooting for Green Bay Packers, I sat knitting a cool football for a fellow Etsian , http://www.etsy.com/shop/NattyKnits . You can even visit her blog here: http://nattyknitter.wordpress.com/

She wanted someone to try out her "Baby's First Football" pattern and I volunteered.
It was a fun experience, I've had limited experience with contour knitting and this was really a great learning experience for me.

Later in the evening, as the Packers were winning, my kids too started playing with the recently knitted ball. It's not their "First Football", but it sure is their "First Knitted Football".

Now looking at the ball I think I should have added a few more white stitches......Maybe next time !!!
: )
